What is Technology Integration?

The Office of Curriculum and Instructional Design invites schools, complex areas and other state offices to schedule technology integration consultation and professional development sessions.

The Digital Design Team’s Technology Integration Program is focused on building the capacity of all educators within the Hawaii Department of Education. We believe that by leveraging technology, educators are empowered with systems and tools to make a greater impact at all levels.

The SAMR Model

Technology integration can range from physical devices (Chromebooks) to software applications (Google Workspace) and everything in between. It is typically used to overcome challenges or provide opportunities that would otherwise by improbable.

The SAMR Model is one example of framing Technology Integration not as a collection of tools, but rather as a change in practice. This applies to classroom as well as offices.

For example:

Effective Integration

According to the National Educational Technology Standards for Students, International Society for Technology in Education, "Effective integration of technology is achieved when students are able to select technology tools to help them obtain information in a timely manner, analyze and synthesize the information, and present it professionally. The technology should become an integral part of how the classroom functions -- as accessible as all other classroom tools."

Goals and Objectives

While looking to build capacity with our systems, it is less about the specific tool and often more about how that tool will be utilized. Take a moment to look deeper at the opportunity to make an impact. This infographic provides some guidance on goals and objectives that we look to accomplish. Maybe you are looking for solutions that focus on application, or maybe your goals are more on evaluating and creating.

The Digital Design Team seeks to support you in effective integration while achieving your goals and objectives.
