Project Inspire: Apply to Teach
Course Dates
Project Inspire sessions generally run from the following dates:
Spring: January 15 - May 15 (Portfolio due April 15)
Summer: June 10 - October 15 (Portfolio due September 17) OR Fall: August 15 - December 15 (Portfolio due November 15)
Instructor Qualifications
Qualifications for becoming a Project Inspire instructor are as follows:
State of Hawaii resident
Classroom experience in teaching (desired but not required)
Experience in teaching in an online environment (desired but not required)
Successful completion of the following courses:
Online Teaching Level 1 or Connect! course OR
Online Teaching Level 1 / Growing with Canvas
OR obtain an approved exemption from Project Inspire staff
Compensation Schedule
Please note that all our teaching positions are part-time (PTT). **All work for Project Inspire must be done outside of regular HIDOE work hours.**
Teachers:
$147.56 / per participant
*1-5 participants: Instructor has the option to cancel course due to low enrollment
Designers/Developers:
$1981.52 (includes LearnSoft course write up and course development)
Course Facilitation
In general, instructor expectations include:
Logging into the course regularly to perform tasks for effective online instruction.
Responding to participants within 48 hours.
Grading assignments promptly.
Attending online annual Project Inspire Orientation (usually held in the summer)
Meeting administrative deadlines on tasks such as:
Providing participant performance email notifications
Grading Learning Results Portfolios
Inputting grades into LearnSoft
Completing the course closeout checklist
Applying best practices for effective online instruction
Providing clear guidelines and policies regarding student-instructor communication
Promoting student-student cooperation and collaboration
Promoting active learning
Providing clear expectations
Providing prompt, specific and individualized feedback to promote understanding
Providing deadlines
Setting high expectations
Providing multiple forms of learning (written, oral, visual, manipulative, etc.)
Having access to high-speed Internet connection and computer with a currently supported operating system along with webcam capabilities
Being able to effectively use online tools such as email, forums, web editors, other emerging web tools, etc.
Being open to learning and applying emerging online instructional tools
